From tennis to football to equestrianism
We think that top product quality and top performance in sport simply go well together. That is why OBO has been actively involved in sports sponsorships for years. Sport not only boosts motivation, drive and team spirit, it also provides great experiences and emotions. We are happy to be a part of it. Whether it’s football, tennis or equestrianism, with professional or up-and-coming athletes – our commitment to sport is diverse.
For us, sports sponsorships are also part of our commitment to more social sustainability. After all, we are part of society and want to play an active part in it now and in the future.
OBO and the Borussia Dortmund football club – a strong partnership
A down-to-earth nature, a regional presence and a commitment to the needs of people – whether employees, customers or fans – this is what connects OBO and Borussia Dortmund. OBO has been a partner of the black and yellow football club since 2011. In addition to the BVB Evonik Football Academy, the cooperation also includes advertising banners at BVB’s stadium and the possibility for select OBO customers to follow the exciting matches from the stadium’s VIP area.
Ulrich Bettermann, President of the OBO Supervisory Board, summarises the long-standing and highly successful partnership with BVB: “We not only share one-hundred years of tradition with Borussia Dortmund, but also our commitment to always giving 100% for success. Borussia Dortmund on the field, and we at OBO on construction sites all over the world.”
The BVB Evonik Football Academy at the OBO Arena
Sport, fun, movement, team spirit – these words best describe the BVB Evonik Football Academy. As part of our cooperation with Borussia Dortmund, we have offered our popular football week for years. It is aimed at employees’ children aged from 6 to 13 and is held at the OBO Arena in Menden-Hüingsen over the course of a week during summer holidays. The children have the opportunity to practice with a licensed BVB team of trainers. The training methods are based on the sporting concept of the BVB youth academy. Besides football-specific content such as dribbling and shooting, the trainers also instil a love for the sport. Another integral part of the BVB Evonik Football Academy is the black and yellow training gear waiting for each of the little football stars. At the end of the week, the children can show off what they’ve learned at the grand final tournament. Of course, our mascot – the OBO man – and the BVB mascot Emma insisted on making an appearance.

Jan-Lennard Struff
At the very top of German men’s tennis and on courts across the globe
We are proud to have supported one of Germany’s tennis greats since 2021: Jan-Lennard Struff. He is originally from Warstein, not far from the OBO site in Menden.
With the OBO logo on his shirt, he has celebrated successful tennis tournaments all over the world, including a win at the BMW Open in Munich in 2024, and reaching the semi-finals at the ATP Tournament in Gstaad. At the Grand Slam Tournament in Wimbledon, he most recently made it to the last 16.
Terra Wortmann Open – great tennis in Halle
Speaking of tennis, we not only support Jan-Lennard Struff, but are also an official sponsor of the tennis tournament in Halle. Ever since 1993, the tournament has lured tennis greats and an international audience to Westphalia. To date, it has attracted over 2.7 million spectators. In 2024 over 100,000 visitors were once again treated to top tennis over the course of nine days as part of the Terra Wortmann Open. We are proud to support this tournament, and it shows: In recent years we have highlighted our sponsorship with our logo placed prominently on the shot clock, which counts down the time remaining for players to serve. Over the past few years, we also had the opportunity to be on-site with our company TV format OBO TV, holding exclusive interviews with Mischa Zverev, brother and manager of Alexander Zverev, and tennis pros Jan-Lennard Struff and Andreas Mies, amongst others.
Balve Optimum – international equestrianism in the Sauerland region
Besides football and tennis, we are also committed to equestrianism, supporting the Balve Optimum equestrian tournament, which has been held at Wocklum Castle, not far from our Menden site, for over 70 years. It is one of Europe’s most long-established tournaments. The tournament regularly hosts the German dressage and show jumping championships.
