OBO Bettermann is continuing its international expansion and has acquired a majority stake in the Turkish fastener manufacturer Ezel Civata. The company announced this on 24 July 2026. No details of the purchase price were disclosed.

OBO Bettermann, headquartered in Menden, operates in the field of electrical installation technology. Ezel Civata is based in Torbalı, near Izmir, and manufactures screws, nuts, bolts and specialised fasteners. Fasteners are crucial, amongst other things, for the quality, safety and functionality of electrical installations.

Production site in Turkey

According to the company, Ezel Civata has a production area of 30,000 square metres. The company supplies customers on almost every continent, including firms in the automotive and mechanical engineering sectors as well as trading companies.

OBO Bettermann already has a presence in Turkey with a factory near Istanbul. The company also highlights Turkey’s role as a market and as a gateway to supply regions in the Near and Middle East.

Family-owned businesses remain operationally involved

Like OBO, Ezel Civata was also founded in 1911 and has developed from a hardware retailer into a manufacturer with its own cold-forming facilities, automated electroplating, hardening plant and production technology. More than 200 employees manufacture and distribute a range of fasteners. The stated production capacity is around 15,000 tonnes per year.

The Kohen family, the owners, will retain a stake in the company and continue to manage Ezel Civata’s day-to-day operations. The existing points of contact will remain the same for customers, suppliers and employees.

Comments on the merger

“With Ezel Civata, OBO is gaining a highly experienced and successful specialist that has stood for high-quality screws, nuts, bolts and special fasteners from its own production for decades,” said Ulrich Bettermann, Chairman of the OBO Board of Directors.

OBO Managing Director Palausch explained: “Ezel Civata’s values and quality are an excellent fit for OBO. From the very beginning, both companies recognised the opportunities and benefits of our collaboration. The negotiations were conducted fairly, professionally and effectively. These are the best possible conditions for a bright future together.”

Ezel and Izzet Kohen, managing partners of Ezel Civata, are quoted as saying: “The business and personal chemistry is right; mutual trust has grown steadily and is built on solid foundations. The merger is a milestone in the further development of Ezel Civata. We are delighted to have found a partner as reliable and strong as OBO Bettermann. With OBO, we are ideally equipped to tackle the challenges and seize the opportunities of the future and can continue to grow.”
