Award for OBO EcoLine products

This year, Deutsches Institut für Service-Qualität (German institute for service quality) business magazine DUP and news network ntv once again presented the “Deutscher Award für Nachhaltigkeitsprojekte” award for sustainability projects. OBO EcoLine products were honoured in the category “Production”.

OBO EcoLine includes cable tray systems from carbon-reduced steel, connection and routing systems as well as fastening materials with high recycled plastic content. In comparison with the similar standard OBO products, both product groups have lower carbon emissions.  Dr Dirk Eckert, Head of Product Compliance & Sustainability Management at OBO Bettermann, accepted the award at the official presentation ceremony on 17 September in Berlin.

“We want to drive decarbonisation in electrical installations forward with solutions that are easy to use and don’t require any additional planning or mounting work for our customers. With the OBO EcoLine product groups, it is possible to reduce the carbon emissions of products used in electrical installations for construction projects significantly. We are delighted that the award recognises this, says Dr Dirk Eckert.

OBO Bettermann offers an extensive range of carbon-reduced products that are 100% compatible with existing OBO systems, featuring the same high level of quality, load-bearing performance and corrosion protection as the standard OBO products.  The reduction in carbon compared with standard OBO products is achieved by using steel produced in electric arc furnaces, as well as by using recycled plastics. Overall, this achieves a 45–50% carbon reduction in comparison with the standard items.

The German award for sustainability projects (Deutscher Award für Nachhaltigkeitsprojekte) honours projects from all economic sectors, under the patronage of Brigitte Zypries, former Federal Minister of Justice and Federal Minister of Economic Affairs of Germany. A total of 433 companies and their projects were nominated, and the best projects in 19 categories won over the first-rate panel of judges. The panel analysed the submitted sustainability projects against the economic and ecological objectives such as raw material efficiency, recycling and conservation, and also social objectives such as education, health and equal opportunity.
