      KTS Cable support systems

OBO Construct KTS
The powerful planning software for OBO cable support systems is available immediately in the form of the 2007 update.

With the new OBO Construct KTS software, OBO BETTERMANN is breaking new gorund in the planning of cable support systems.
The newly-developed software solution, available as an add-in for AutoCAD up to the current 2007 version, allows the electrical planner, the architect and the installation engineer to increase their planning security and effectivity and to create expanded planning space.

OBO Construct is characterised by the following features:

  • Simple download of existing drawings and plans in the most common CAD formats dwg and dxf
  • Easy construction of cable support systems using the integrated route editor
  • Construction of function maintenance cable support systems in accordance with DIN 4102, Part 12
  • Automatic calculation of route loads and the option of specifying cable assignments and loads
  • Menu-controlled article selection integrated into the program
  • Technical and graphic description of the components used in the drawing
  • Generation of KTS material parts' lists
  • Export and import of drawing blocks

The most important improvements in the update 2007 are:

  • Unproblematic program integration into AutoCAD 2007 (full- or LT-version)
  • Advanced and improved multilingualism (German, English, French and Czech)
  • Adjusted catalogue structure with 3D-graphics
  • Detailed mounting examples (3D-graphics)
  • Examples of use in the form of 3D-system overviews
  • Integrated electronic helping tool for choosing cable support systems according to support distance, cable filling, cables and cable load
  • Improved statics journal (printable)
  • Over-worked loading diagrams
  • Integrated new products

At the beginning of any planning operation is the selection of the correct cable support system. OBO Construct KTS can provide you with the perfect base for this. The various systems are presented to the use with the help of graphic and tabular lists. Help is available to show which system is the best in which situation and which system is approved taking the loads which occur and the support distances into account.

As part of the construction of the cable support system section, which can be one layer and multilayer, and which can take place using the buttons in the OBO Construct toolbar, you can also place the matching fittings simply and freely on the drawing board. But it doesn’t matter if the cable support system is designed in one or more levels.

After planning, the mounting system is specified in the form of wall or ceiling fixings. Here the program automatically offers the optimum solution, dependent on the cable route type, the load and the support distance. Of course, the user has the option of modifying this suggested solution. An integrated plausibility test prevents the use of incorrect or weak components, protecting the user against unpleasant surprises later on.

Of course, the increasing importance of laying cable trays and cable ladders in function maintenace according to DIN 4102 Part 12 taken into account. All the options of cable route planning with function maintenance are covered by the OBO Construct KTS program and executed according to DIN.

Also, imaginary filling of the the cable route with various cable tyoes at a later date is also possible for the purposes of load testing. The planner selects the appropriate cable types from a stored database and specifies the quantity. The program calculates important parameters, such as weight per metre and diameter, automatically. A log of all the important information for the action is made available to the planner.
Another highlight is the component labelling, which is integrated into OBO Construct KTS. This allows automatic labelling of all the components used, thus making them recognisable to the user. The labelling can be inserted automatically, adjusted to suit individual needs and be supplemented with graphic elements.

The complete cable route planning with all the products and components used can be converted as a single entity into a materials list in Excel format with a flick of the wrist. This provides the user with a first overview of the material quantities involved. For financial purposes, this list also contains the gross prices and the discount groups.
For further processing, additional individual items from the OBO range can be added to the materials list.

With the export and import of drawing blocks, the OBO Construct KTS program can offer an additional, very useful option.
This function allows you to be able to both export and import not just elements constructed in the OBO Construct KTS, but any other freely-selectable object as an independent drawing block (.dwg). An application example here would be cable route planning, in which several identical plans must be included. The cable route plan is created once, the route exported as a block and then reimported wherever it is required.

Each individual step of cable route construction in OBO Construct KTS is also described in detail in the online Help. For additional technical aid and visualisation, there is a database with all the included products with line drawings and product explanations.

Conclusion:
The new OBO Construct KTS planning software simplifies the planning of cable support systems for the user. With this AutoCAD-based software, existing plans can be imported and edited individally. In addition, the integrated, menu-controlled KTS article catalogue provides a visual image of the components with a description.
